    Blog Bog

This past week has been a challenge, and I am happy to say that I have been victorious!

    Blogging down/Productivity up!

I suddenly (and I mean suddenly) had double booked myself for school and was playing a massive game of tag with the tail of my homework list. Add that to my regular schedule and that my youngest child turns 12 this week and her "friend" birthday sleepover had been scheduled for Friday night AND we had some wonderful friends over Saturday evening.  Unfortunately, all of that together meant that my blog got shifted way down to the bottom of the list. Happily, I turned in everything I needed to and am just dealing with a bit of eye-strain. Well, that and I'm a little behind on my sleep; I haven't been to bed before 1am since last Monday night.

I Spy with my little eye…and Ouch! It hurts!

My husband has been making fun of me because I keep typing while looking away from my computer entirely; it just feels better that way. One of the great things about my university is that nearly all required reading is made available to us in digital format for no additional charge. It also saves me from lugging around heavy texts, since I simply download it all into my notebook pc and have it all at my fingertips whenever I have a spare moment to do homework. The drawback is that my eyes are really tired and hurt and give me headaches and stomachaches after spending several days in a row staring at the screen without those textbook breaks thrown in. I guess I need to start working them out. How do those computer programmers do it?

    Losing weight!

MadDad started a weight loss challenge two weeks ago, and I signed up to participate. It wasn't a New Year's resolution, I don't do those; it was simply good timing. About two weeks before Christmas, the Captain and I purchased a treadmill, a stationary bike, and a small TV that were all carefully arranged in our garage. The Captain vigorously embarked upon his weight -loss voyage and I sort of tinkered around on the shoreline a bit until I saw Mad Suburban Dad's challenge. I think I just wanted to be part of an armada!

This last week I kicked it up a notch by going on a two week, 90% raw foods, vegan fast. The first couple of days were a challenge, but I think that I feel much better physically right now than if I had been downing birthday ice-cream and left-over Christmas choc-lates. And I would have been...the justification from the stress would have killed any chance I would have had of making the small sacrifices.

    And It Rained…

Our town has been dealing with flooding conditions and trees have been pulling their roots up to cross the roads, well, just one big one that crossed an intersection by my house. But, it looks like the rain has let up; the last day hasn’t seen much fall here, in fact, it looks like it might snow! *Fingers crossed*

So, last Wednesday I was feeling pretty low, fairly overwhelmed and today…things are looking up!

Look for reasons to make your eyes smile.

You have a nice space, it makes for a really interesting read.

Will definitely keep visiting it again nd again, infact i have already added it to my favorites.

Well since i  am a computer programmer i can tell you that even our eyes hurt, infact even my neck hurts because of staring at the screen nonstop. But we take a lot of coffee breaks..

Otherwise try splashing your eyes with cold water, it works like magic for aching eyes.

Hi. Thanks for dropping in! Sadly I must tell you that Costa Ricans have given up their uniqueness. They have surrendered to the new god--MONEY and THINGISM. There are many reasons as to why this happened and it happened fast! Costa Rica has sold itself out to whom it may concern. The wonderful, exciting, individual differences that I found upon arriving here have literally been wiped out. The new generation has no idea of what it even means to be Costa Rican. To best describe to you how Costa Rica was before...there was no Super Ego so you could live. People didn't stand there in judgement of you--pressuring you to be something you weren't. This gave everyone a feeling like they could do anything they wanted--as long as you didn't mistreat anyone. The worst crime we had was petty thievery. Even the thieves were respectful. They made it a point to never hurt anyone and robbed just a little. Everyone felt like they were important and it didn't matter if you had money or didn't. Everyone was together--old people, little kids, rich and poor. We danced together, talked together, rode the bus together, went places together. Costa Rica was a people oriented society. As soon as tecnology, foreigners with big bucks, and U.S. television invaded Costa Rican life everything changed. Now we have violence, crime, abandoned human beings of all ages, hate, arrogance, depression...But, I have very good memmories and I keep them alive through my television show. The good times deeply affected my thinking, values and way of life. I'm considered eccentric here because in the midst of most people turning into globalized zombies, I keep my original-lively spunk going!

Keep in touch! Nice to hear from you.

Well hello again. It's always fun to read your blogs and I was beginning to get worried. Yikes, I'm glad all is well. Also, I have to admit I have been a very bad aunt....I just got Elizabeth's Christmas present in the mail!!!
That one extra piece to the puzzle took me forever to do what finally only took about 90 sec and then the whole mailing process...hopefully she won't send it back with disgust. Have a better week!!!

Welcome back to Blogland - you were missed!

Glad you finished all your obligations - school, family and other - and are still alive to tell the tale. Congrats on the weight loss motivation - hubby and I have begun changing our eating patterns, but haven't yet picked up the home gym stuff (hopefully when he returns in two weeks).

Where in the PNW are you? You mentioned in your comment over at my place that you were also subject to the rain, so I'm guessing you're not too far away from me. Our local park was completely under water on Sunday, becasue the Little Spokane overflowed. It was kinda funny to see the jungle gym sticking above the water. Hope no homes were adversely affected.

I drove home from the in-laws last night (3 hours), and hit all that snow. There were near white-out conditions on I90 last night, and I spent over an hour driving at 40mph with a long caravan of other poor schlumps. Of course, there were the idiots who passed us going 60, but since I had my boys in the car and I had no where to be, I thought 40 was fast enough. We made it home safely though.

Looks like I've written a blog entry of my own here, so I'll stop. Hope you have a fantastic eve and a happy Wednesday.

I am sick that you can touch-type - when & where I went to school only 'commercial course' (no college bound) students got made to take typing. As a programmer,it is a lifelong handicap that I can't flow over the screens effortlessly like the newer people. as for the 'second rate women' remark you rose above on my site, i was NOT speaking of women - any women as being second-rate - I was talking about the cowboys in Brokeback being men, not 'second rate (i.e. campy, queeny 'pretend' women). It is a type of guy in their circs that is almost never portrayed, but they actually are all over the place. But the Will & Grace types get all the attention. Good god, I would never refer to (real) women as second rate, because I have never in my life entertained that thought for a minute.
As far as being part of an armada, I think you might want to re-check your history book. That didn't end well for the members thereof!
As a programmer, I can tell you that computers have made me sick to my stomach since day 2 and not from the eyestrain, but from the boredom content - what a DREARY career! (On day 1 I actually thought I would like it - what was i thinking??)

Was missing you and wondering you've been up to. Congrats for conquering a rough week! Mine is coming up this week. I'm about ready to rush out the door with my 5 year-old for her first art class and that will start a week of blurring pace! Dinner parties, birthday parties, potlucks, and who knows how many other surprises I'll find along the way. Here I go . . . !
